Board of Commissioners

Your Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue Board of Fire Commissioners is comprised of five elected fire commissioners operating under the auspices of Title 52 of the Revised Code of Washington (RCW).  Commissioners have a statutory obligation to manage the affairs of the District and establish all District policies.  Each fire commissioner is elected to serve a six year term through the Jefferson County Office of Elections.  The day to day operations of the District are managed by Interim Fire Chief Brad Martin.

Ron Helmonds, Chairman

Commissioner Helmonds was elected to a six year term in beginning January, 2010.  He currently serves as the current Chairman of the Board and is on the district's finance and safety committees.  Ron and Debbie, his wife of 35 years moved to Port Ludlow in 2003 along with their son Jeff and daughter Desiree.  After living in the San Francisco Bay Area for nearly 45 years, the move north was a welcomed change.  Ron owned and operated a chain of furniture stores in the Bay Area with 8 retail locations and over 150 employees.   Ron has an extensive background in business and property management, training and employee relations. Both Ron and Debbie are active in local community groups and events.  Ron is currently a Realtor with Coldwell Banker in Port Ludlow where he also is their property manager.  Commissioner Helmonds enjoys all water sports including fishing, boating, sailing, and kayaking.

Gene Carmody, Secretary

Commissioner Carmody is a retired Fire Chief of the Yokusoka, Japan Fire Department. He has served as a Port Ludlow Fire and Rescue fire commissioner for more than ten years and has seen the steady population growth in Port Ludlow which has required increased staff and upgraded equipment. Gene is an active member of the Washington Fire Commissioners Association and currently serves on the state Health Care Committee that oversees the statewide self insured insurance program. Gene is active in the community, currently assisting with the Village Council and volunteers as a proof reader for the Port Ludlow Voice. He serves on the fire district's stategic planning committee and labor/management committee. Gene is married to Kozue and they live in the North Bay area.

Ed Davis, Commissioner

Commissioner Davis was appointed as a Port Ludlow Fire and Rescue Commissioner in September 2011. He served as a fire commissioner with District 1 for eight years, giving him an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a commissioner. After moving to Port Ludlow in 2006, Ed resigned his position with District 1. Prior to moving to Jefferson County, he lived in Hillsboro and served in a management position at Tektronix located in Beaverton, Oregon. He has lived in Jefferson County for 18 years, and owns and operates Peninsula Insurance Center with his wife, Sara. They have two sons, Todd and Ben. Todd is an officer in the Air Force, and Ben is a civil engineer.

Robert Pontius, Commissioner

Commissioner Pontius has served as a Port Ludlow Fire and Rescue Commissioner for over twelve years.  In keeping with his background in the trucking industry, Bob serves on the district's equipment and facilities committee and is also on the labor/management committee.  He is an alternate member of the JEFFCOM (911) board and is president of the Jefferson County Fire Commissioners Association. He notes that he is proud to be able to serve the community and the larger public through his fire commissioner role.  Bob is a beef rancher living in the Beaver Valley area and the proud father of three children and three grandchildren.
