PORT LUDLOW, September 4, 2009 - Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue crews responded to a structure fire at 430 Werner Road in Port Ludlow Friday night at 8:20PM. A building that housed a sauna was fully engulfed in flames when crews arrived. No one was in the building at the time of the fire.

A neighbor, who was watching the house for the owners, had used the sauna several times in the past, he said. He started a fire in the wood burning stove and returned to his home, waiting for it to heat the water. Upon his return some time later, he added more wood and returned to his home next door. He returned again to find the 15’ by 15’ structure fully engulfed in flames and called 9-1-1.

Crews from East Jefferson Fire Rescue provided mutual aid to Port Ludlow on this incident. District 91--Indian Island, was dispatched to the scene, but later recalled when the fire was extinguished. Firefighters remained on scene for approximately two hours mopping up.
