PORT LUDLOW—June 27, 2011
Port Ludlow Fire & Rescue and Jefferson County Fire District # 2 Joint Resident Firefighters have successfully completed the Washington State Fire Academy at North Bend. The academy is part of a rigid and demanding training program requiring hard work, dedication and a commitment to becoming a career firefighter. Completing the training program with honors and high praise from their instructors and their peers are FF/EMT Johnny Carr, FF/EMT Blake Marcucci and FF/EMT Michael Carlile. Among the achievements, these individuals were honored with “Most Inspirational” and the “Bull Dog” award for leadership. Joint Resident FF/PM Evan Stanley graduated from the academy in November 2010 and for being recognized for his leadership abilities he was invited back as a Company Officer for this class to assist with instruction. During the eleven week program, the recruits learn skills to save the lives and properties of those in the communities in which they live. The Joint Resident Program has sent nine recruits through the academy over the past year. Fire Chief Ed Wilkerson stated the “each and every one of these resident firefighters has represented their districts with outstanding achievements” and went on to say how “proud our two organizations and our communities are”.
The Joint Resident Program consists of Volunteers who are interested in a career in the fire service. These Volunteers work hand in hand with the districts duty crews on a regular work schedule to serve the community in responding to a wide variety of emergency situations. The Volunteer Resident Program is a two year commitment during which time the recruits undergo training on a regular basis beginning with a six month on-the-job training program. Upon completion of the program and the Candidate Physical Ability Test the Resident is prepared to be sent to the Firefighter Academy.
PLFR is actively seeking volunteers for its program. Volunteer Opportunities include our Resident Program as well as “Traditional Firefighter/EMT”, “EMS Only” and “Support Services Volunteer”.
